This has been the CRAZIEST week of my summer. Last Wednesday Aaron and I got rid of the kids to grandma and grandpas and we took off to Omaha early Thursday morning. We went to see a couple concerts and then we came home Sunday late afternoon. This week I have been helping out with VBS at church every morning and then have had miscellaneous commitments in the evenings. Then Saturday I’m canoeing all day with some ladies and Sunday is an extra long (but super fun) day at church – then we have a quiet week. I’m actually looking forward to Monday!
So ANYWAY – last Saturday Aaron and I went to a (Christian) rap/hip hop concert. (And I know you are thinking that because this group is Christian it is probably super cheesy – NOT at ALL cheesy, FYI.) I didn’t think I liked rap or hip hop until last week. We were driving to Omaha and I decided I should probably listen to the music of the band we were going to see. Apparently I LOVE rap/hip hop. Seriously. After listening to the album twice I couldn’t stop listening to it. I was hooked!
We saw Eshon Burgundy and the band Beautiful Eulogy (do you call rap groups bands? I have no idea). In fact, I love rap so much that I want rap at my funeral. For real. You can watch the video right here. And listen close – the words are powerful.
What I love about this group is that their lyrics are so deep – and the music is so catchy. They also have quite a few melodic parts in their music which I like – I’m not sure I could handle an entire album of total rap without some breaks. This group has a great mix of sounds which I really love.
We had So. Much. Fun. seeing these guys in Omaha! Aaron said it was one of his top 5 favorite concerts. They performed at wood shop so it was a fun/funky “venue” – and small – so it had a very personal feel to the show. We had the opportunity to talk to all 3 of the guys and Eshon which was super fun. Sooooooooooo all that to say I think you should check them out. You might surprise yourself and end up actually liking rap music.
The best part? The two rappers in Beautiful Eulogy started a record label called Humble Beast – and Humble Beast gives away all their music. Seriously. So you can download Beautiful Eulogy’s album called Satellite Kite right here for free. And if you love it you can maybe donate a few bucks to them if you want. And if you hate it you can delete it! You have nothing to lose. I suggest listening to the songs Beautiful Eulogy (above – what I want at my funeral), An Open Letter to Whoever is Listening (a song that kind of introduces the band and what they are about), and my personal favorite song Method 1, 2 (a song about relationships – really fun and makes you want to dance).
So there you have it. Basically I just really like this music and I thought you might like it too, so I figured I’d share it with you guys. Let me know if you guys check them out! It would be fun to hear what you think of them!
