As we’ve mentioned in the past, one of our very favorite things about being bloggers is getting to know people we would have never met otherwise. We have been truly thrilled to make new friends – one of them being Kelly over at View Along the Way. Kelly is such a sweet, funny, creative person and we are so happy to be able to call her our friend! Today we are excited to be participating in a SURPRISE virtual baby shower that was organized and hosted by Skye and Erin!We are in charge of decorations…so if we were going to a real baby shower for Kelly, this is what we’d bring! (Since Katie was on vacation the last several days we each did some decorations at our respective homes – but we truly would put these all together at one of our houses for a shower!)
We opted to not do a theme, and rather go for a “feel” with decorations. We spent a few minutes looking at Kelly’s nursery board on Pinterest and reviewing a few of her blog posts and felt that she is working towards a nursery that screams fun, colorful, happy, and whimsical. Our goal in thinking up decorations was to bring that feel into her shower!
Here’s what we did:
Our main decoration is flowers. They are bright and happy and scream Spring! We love daisies because they are friendly, fun, inexpensive, and come in a variety of colors! The first thing we wanted was for guests to feel invited before they even walk in the door. We would put flowers on the steps leading to the front door – and when everyone has arrived bring them in to add to your decor!
We love using items like pitchers and mason jars to hold flowers!
We also noticed that Kelly has pinned tons of different “chandys” so we wanted to try our hand at a few. Kelly, we wish we could mail these to you but we don’t think that they’d make it (besides, Jen had quite the difficult time making these…be glad this is a “virtual” baby shower and not a real one or you’d see about 22 tears in each puff. She tried.) We love the whimisical, happy feel that these chandeliers bring to the room! Plus, they look amazing hanging from the hooks at Jen’s place!
For other decorations we would make a “garland” out of onesies! Neither one of us has a mantle, so hanging it from the curtain rod hooks works just fine for us.
We used onesies that were Katie’s daughters’, but if you were doing this for real it would be fun to have guests bring onesies to “hang on the line!” Another thing we decided to do was take down pictures that were on the wall and hang up cute girly clothes instead! Again, we used things we already had. You could also borrow baby clothes from friends to use as decoration if you don’t have any (this would also help save money on decorating).
We used some fabric we already had to create the runner. We just folded it up and taped the raw edge ends under the table! No sewing! We love how the polka dots on the fabric go with the chandeliers Jen made and the circular center of the flowers. And polka dots are FUN!
We filled up some sundae dishes and wine glasses with split peas and stuck tea lights inside to go along the runner.
Kelly, we are so excited for you and your family and the little girl who’s about to join it! It was so fun to pull together decorations for this shower and imagine actually doing it for YOU – I wish we could have a real shower! We will be praying for you as you begin your journey as a family of four, and we know and trust that God will be with you and provide you with everything you need. We are so excited for you and can’t WAIT for the “we had a baby!” post on your blog!
A big thank you to Erin and Skye for hosting such a fun party! Be sure to head over to Erin’s blog for a complete list of all the fun items that were brought to the shower (food, gifts, beverages, appetizers, and games)!
