Happy Monday everyone! How was everyone’s weekend? Ours was good. I got to celebrate one of my girlfriend’s birthdays on Friday, we helped our parents move on Saturday and relaxed and went to church on Sunday. Overall it was a great weekend!
If you remember a few months ago I blogged about this iPhone cover. In my search for a new cover I ran across the company Carved on etsy. They make iPhone covers completely out of wood (while the other etsy store I blogged about made plastic look like wood). I think I prefer the real wood…it’s pretty amazing they can take a piece of wood, carve out a design and make it fit an iPhone. Sometimes people’s creative jeans just blow my mind. I would be the type to think that idea would be amazing but never be able to execute it. Well, Carved has definitely executed it. I emailed them to ask about their covers and they so generously told me the would send me a sample iPhone cover for free! Even more amazing right??
Say hi to Grant and John. John (on the right) is the owner and Grant is the store manager. Hi guys!!
Another one of their associates, Darrik, who I’ve been talking to has a wife who runs marathons. (Apparently he blogged stalked PPS. Awesome!) The people who work at Carved are personable, nice AND make fabulous iPhone covers. I would say that is a win, win, win! Here are the deets about Carved in their own words…
We prefer natural colors.
Each product we make at our shop in Elkhart, Indiana starts with a tedious wood selection process. Every piece that we select must have a deep and natural grain running through it. Then the real magic starts…
It’s all custom.
Through a unique laser-engraving technique, we can turn any photograph or logo that you have into an iPhone or iPad case or skin complete with amazing detail. All of our products are precision laser cut and engraved.
It’s all us.
From sanding to laser engraving to answering the phones to attaching the adhesive on our iPad and iPhone skins to product photography to CNC operation to making sure your order gets shipped out quick, we do everything ourselves, right here in Elkhart, Indiana. Yep, we even built the Carved.com website.
Everything is double-checked.
Before we send out any product, we take extra precautions to make sure that each skin and case made lives up to our strict standards. If we’re not happy with a finished product, we’ll make sure that it is perfect before it reaches your doorstep.
We are perfectionists.
The wood species, the sanding technique and grit, the finish type and number of coats; we carefully planned it all. Every board is hand selected so the product you receive has a beautiful grain pattern. Our finish protects and beautifies the wood while still maintaining that original wood feel.
So there you have it. They’re pretty serious about their wood carving/iPhone cover making. I am absolutely thrilled with my cover. It fits me perfectly and looks super cool. A couple months ago I dropped my phone and cracked my screen (classy I know) so I have to have a fabulous looking cover so I don’t like like such a loser.
In case you don’t follow me on Instagram this is what my cover looks like.
Of course it’s a map. (If you’re new to PPS, I’m kind of obsessed with maps.) And speaking of Instagram, you should follow Carved on Instagram (or facebook for that matter). They post pictures of upcoming projects and just funny things that are going on around their shop (and bonus, they don’t overload your stream with too many photos or not so cool photos…I really like these guys). Like this one of @davidwebber dogboarding.
Or THIS cover…it’s another PERFECT one for me!!!! I think I’ll have to get this one as my winter cover.
I seriously love it. The other cool thing about Carved is you can send them your own photo or company logo or whatever and have them put it on a cover for you. Maybe once Paisley Print Boutique gets up and running I should get a PPB cover! Or maybe the men in my family need their business logos on their iPhone covers…looks like I have Christmas presents for next year! (It’s a good thing they don’t read our blog.)
Oh and I haven’t even told you the price. They run between $19-29. No joke. You can buy a real wood cover for cheaper than you can buy a plastic one from the Apple store/Target/or any other big time store. (I think the custom ones are about $49…you can ask John for more details!) iPad mini covers run about $36-41. So, support a small business and pick up an iPhone cover that is unique, fabulous looking and a definite conversation starter from Carved.
