Hey All!
We hope you had a good weekend.  Ours was good…we each had some ups and downs but overall, it was a good weekend.  On Saturday Jen babysit all THREE of my kids so Aaron and I could go out to celebrate our 11th anniversary.  Annoying moment of the weekend: we didn’t take a picture of ourselves!!  Ugh.  Oh well.

Its been a while since we have featured an Etsy product on our blog, so we’re excited to show you this sweet find.  It comes from the Etsy store Stefano Art.  It is no secret that we are fond of Minnesota and love things that have to do with maps.  We also love jewelry…so…these are right up our alley!

Source: etsy.com via Katie on Pinterest

I think it would be fun to get a Texas one since that is where Elias was born.  It would be super fun to get a Minnesota one for Jen’s friend who is moving to our beloved state from Georgia!   Are you with us that these are SUPER cute?  They are $38 – and we found out that Stefano Art will do custom pieces of basically anything (state, continent, contry, lake….)  Maybe I should get a Minnesota, Ethiopia, and Texas one all on one chain!  Jen could get pendants of her favorite countries that she has visited.  The options are endless.

What would you get if you were to get a custom piece?

We are in no way compensated for this post. Stefano Art has no idea who we are – we just found this store on Etsy, loved the products, and wanted to share them with you!

jewelry galore

Filed Under: for the girl by Katie — 12 Comments
March 1, 2012

I first want to say, THANKS for all the wonderful comments yesterday!!  It was encouraging and fun to read them.  You guys are the greatest!

Second, THANKS to everyone who sent in pictures of their jewelry display/storage!  If you don’t remember, last week I posted this post about everyone’s comments about how they store their jewelry.  We got the idea after this post where we talked about how we housed our jewelry (with photos!).  It was so fun to get some emails from you all over the last week.  It is fun to see how everyone has different tastes and styles in their jewelry AND how we keep it at our homes!  So, without further adieu, here we go!

First up is Aimee’s from Gracefully Gifted – the braiding on the outside of the dish is so beautiful!

Here is our mom’s!  She got everything for her jewelry storage from IKEA – everything is easy to see AND we like that she thought outside the box by placing the jewelry underneath a shelf where most people would put a photo or print!

Next up is Michelle from Decor and the Dog – all the silver is right up my alley! This is a very creative idea that we both really like:

Our lovely friend Laura sent us these pictures of her necklaces (we love the funky colored hooks she used!)……and earrings.  (this is the friend that gives Jen fashion advice via the phone before work in the morning.  you can see that here.)

Here is Faith’s (from The Stirring Place) jewelry – we love that she sent us what she does even though she doesn’t wear much jewelry at all!  Here is her ring and necklace storage…

…and her earring storage!

And here is our girl Marissa’s pretty box of “mostly earrings!”

Karley sent us this picture of her necklaces – she used a wine glass rack from IKEA and screwed it in under a shelf in her room!  Lovely:

And last but certainly not least, Erin from His & Hers.  I can TOTALLY see Jen wearing a few of those necklaces on the right!

So what do you guys think?  Any great ideas?  I LOVE looking at all the pictures of the bright colored jewelry, but really, I know I would never wear it if I owned it!  :-)   Jen and I are definitely going to start thinking outside the box (no pun intended!) when it comes to jewelry storage…it seems like a great way to add function as well as a bit of style to a space.

Thanks again for participating, you all!  This was so fun!

say my name, say my name

One thing that Katie and I have a pretty hard time agreeing on is jewelry.  Typically pieces she picks out are far too dainty and simple for me and the ones I pick out are way to big and out there for Katie.  It’s a pretty rare occasion when we share jewelry.

We try frequently to find jewelry to blog about but our tastes just don’t match up more times than they do.  So when we do find jewelry to post about, you can be certain that it is legit.  All girls will it.

Check it out.

{image used with permission from Make Pie Not War}

I have never owned a piece of jewelry with a “J” on it and I’ve always wanted to.  I gravitate toward this piece for that reason.  Katie loves that it look more like a piece of art than a letter.  This necklace is from the etsy store Make Pie Not War and is called “Say My Name”.

On a side note, since I saw what this necklace is called I can’t stop singing Destiny’s Child, “Say My Name”.  I even watched the music video.  Pretty old school…and amazing…here it is in case you were in the same boat as me.

After I watched the video I went on a Beyonce kick and listened to some good old “Irreplaceable” and “Single Ladies”.  Don’t judge.

Back to the necklace.  The cool thing that Alana, the store owner, has is 2 sizes for this specific necklace.  A 1/2″  one  (which Katie would choose…cost $32) and 1″ one (which I would choose…$36).

There are also tons of other amazing pieces of jewelry from Make Pie Not War and we have some fantastic news for you…

Alana has offered (without us even asking!!) to give a coupon code for our readers! Just for being a Paisley Print Shoes reader you get 15% off with the code: “paisleyprintshoes”. Good for one week from today!  WOW!!  Thank you Alana!!  Make sure you all take advantage of this offer…you’re getting beautiful jewelry that is already at a great piece for an even better price!

So you could get this necklace (which I love)…

or this necklace (which Katie loves)….

or the initial necklaces (or any of the items in her store) for 15% off!!!  WOOHOO!!

Don’t forget to send us photos of the way you store your jewelry!  Our post (with links to everyone who submitted a photo) will be up on Thursday!

display the bling

In case you haven’t figured out by now, Jen is the more organized/neat sister out of the two of us.  Remember how she has her closet?  I, literally, just throw my clothes on the floor.  (In fact, the other day Jen was over and she went in my room to borrow a shirt, saw the extreme mess, and said, “Can we please do something about this?”)  It is in fact a problem that I am slowly trying to remedy, but my motivation just isn’t there.

So our differences also can be seen in how we organize our jewelry.  Keep in mind that Jen loves her accessories and I’m more of a basics kind of girl so we have different amounts as well as different ways to organize our goods.

Here is my jewelry box:

And here is Jen’s jewelry area:

Recently we have noticed that we are both beginning to be drawn towards jewelry organizers that display your jewelry.  If you are anything like the two of us you end up wearing the same jewelry over and over again – mostly because you never look at your other stuff!  We’ve been on the lookout lately for cute and unique jewelry organizers and we came across this fun earring display on etsy, which is similar to the one Jen already owns:

{images used with permission from Nadin Glassico}

This is from seller Nadin Glassico and we both like the simplicy of the piece, but also that it has a bit of elegance to it.  The long “arms” give it a very different feel from the one in Jen’s place!  Plus, it doesn’t take up a ton of room on your dresser or vanity, so that is helpful too!  We should mention, for fun, that Nadin makes these in ISRAEL so that is probably another reason why we are naturally drawn to this item.  :-)

So, how about you?  How do you store your jewelry?  And do you end up wearing the same pieces over and over?  We’re hoping to find more jewelry organizers to blog about, so if you’ve got any links to any fun ones send them our way!

M.A.D.: buy sunglasses. give SIGHT.

Filed Under: making a difference by Katie — Leave a comment
January 18, 2012

Today’s post is apart of our “Making A Difference” (M.A.D.) series.  Check out other places making a difference in our world by clicking on the “making a difference” category above.

Unless you’ve been living in a cave or under a rock, you have probably at least HEARD of TOMS shoes.  The company that does “one for one” – you buy a pair of shoes and they GIVE a pair of shoes to a child in need (usually in developing countries).  This past September TOMS gave out its ONE MILLIONTH pair of shoes to a child!!  1,000,000 pairs of shoes.  Wow.

You may have heard that TOMS is coming out with ballet flats this spring.  I can’t wait.

BUT.  Have you heard about TOMS newest one for one?  Check out this video.

That’s right.  TOMS is now doing “one for one” – you buy a pair of TOMS sunglasses and they will make sure one person receives the eyecare that they need.  Here is a diagram taken from the TOMS website:

{image from TOMS}

I don’t know about you, but I honestly cannot imagine life without sufficient eye care.  Jen and I both have TERRIBLE vision.  We have been in glasses since early elementary school.  I can say with certainty that if we had to live life WITHOUT glasses/contacts we would not be able to work, drive, cook, take care of children….you name it.  Our eyesight is that bad.  It truly saddens me to think of people throughout this world who are unable to see…but with a simple pair of glasses their sight could be restored!!

You may be wondering, why sight?  Here are the six reasons TOMS has chosen sight as their next one for one venture.  You can read more about each reason on their website here:
1. This is a solvable crisis.
2. We can help break the poverty trap.
3. Sight means education and opportunity.
4. Women have an equal right to sight.
5.  There is an immediate impact.
6.  We can create a better tomorrow.

So…TOMS has developed 3 styles of sunglasses with different colors within each style.  Each image below is taken from TOMS and is linked so you can check out the styles on their website.

Now, at $135-$145 per pair of sunglasses we realize this is not your spur of the moment purchase.  But…spring is a couple short months…we all want new sunglasses that time of year…will you start thinking NOW about spending the extra money on a pair of TOMS glasses?  Maybe give up going out to eat with your family a couple times over the next few months and put $40 aside each time to put towards a new pair of TOMS glasses.  Or take 2o bucks out of your paychecks over the next 2 months so you can have a chunk to put towards these glasses in April!  We basically just want to encourage you to think about this purchase NOW, BEFORE you are standing in target about to drop $25 on a pair of sunglasses.  Ok?

Well then.  I’m definitely going to think about it.  It is amazing to think that I can splurge on a pair of sunglasses and be guaranteed that someone, somewhere, will get to SEE.  (But I can guarantee you if I buy a pair of these I’m DEFINITELY going to need a cute glasses case to put them in so they don’t get ruined in my purse!)

Making A Difference: L Boutique Headbands

Filed Under: accessories, for the girl, M.A.D series, making a difference by Jen — 3 Comments
October 20, 2011

We will only have one post on days that we feature a product, company, or person that is making a difference in our world.  We want to give them the spotlight for the day!

When you ask, the Lord gives.  We asked for you all to share with us some fabulous products we might love and you did.  Erika over at Jacksons’ Journey sent us a picture of a map clutch since she knew from reading our blog that I have a slight obsession with maps.  She mentioned that Amanda from L Boutique Headbands is selling her products to raise money for a move to Nambia to do mission work.  Instantly we were intrigued.

When we went on her store’s site we fell in love.  Her store is amazing.  Everything from clutches to headbands, hot pads to burp rags and everything in between and it is ALL fantastic.  I’m pretty positive I would buy one of everything if I had the money.  Here’s a small teaser:

After messaging with Amanda, we knew we wanted to feature her as part of our Making A Difference series.  So here we are.  Pour yourself a cup of coffee and get to know this amazing woman with us.

PPS: Tell us a little about yourself.
I am a graduate from Grace University in Omaha, Nebraska.  I graduated with a degree in Intercultural Studies. During my first year of college I attended Nursing School and near the end of that year the Lord had pressed upon my heart to do missions full-time and Nursing just wasn’t my desire anymore.  I changed schools and cities and through my program I went to Mali, West Africa on a 6-month cross-cultural experience.  There we learned more about living in another culture while doing homework and attending classes by our own professors and by Malians.  Before Mali, I had been to Ecuador for 3 weeks and Swaziland, South Africa for 2 months.  I knew missions was my calling and it was just a matter of time and preparation.  My experience in Mali completely confirmed that I could live on the mission field.  It also showed me how WONDERFUL the people of Africa are.  They are so generous, so compassionate and kind, they are hilarious, and strong in all ways.  It was hard but so worth every moment (good or bad).  It has changed who I am and how I see the world.  More importantly it has given me a sense of humility in following Jesus Christ to the ends of the world.  It is all about obedience and glorifying the King of Kings.

PPS: All of your proceeds are going to your move to Nambia…can you tell us more about this?

In the past I have done alot of scrapbooking and even sold my stuff at a craft show for the first time.  I eventually moved past scrapbooking and took a break from crafting for a while.  One day I was surfing the web and found some adorable tutorials on how to make fabric flowers hundreds of different ways.  That was the beginning to buying tons of fabric and spending hours sitting on my floor with the music playing in the background and making hair clips and headbands.  I decided that instead of just letting people donate towards my support and just watching it come in, I wanted to do my part as well.  I wanted to work for it and I definitely am now.  Most evenings after work I will be on the sewing machine or on the floor cutting something out.  I’ve done a couple of craft shows since this summer which have done okay but I hope to get the word out about my store and where the profit is going.  100% of the profit goes straight to AIM in my account.  My new store is at www.lboutiqueheadbands.com. Or find me on facebook under “L Boutique Headbands”.

PPS: How much money do you need to raise?

I approximately need $12,000 for outgoing costs which includes a ton of stuff I don’t know about (yet) and airfare.  On top of that, I also need roughly $2000/month to live on.  This is the toughest part.  Yes people can donate and I can continue to sell my products, but to find people and pray about special supporters to give a monthly commitment for 2 years (to begin with) is huge.  I’m facing a huge challenge but it is not too big for my God.

PPS: When do you leave?

I wont leave till at least next April.  All long-term missionaries have to do a 3-week orientation in Kenya before they head to their specific countries.  The next one isn’t til April.  I will only leave then if I have all my support in.  It is really up in the air right now and I have become content with that.  So many things are unexpected and cannot be planned when going to the mission field or even following a spiritual life and that is why we have to trust.

PPS: Are you going with a church or organization?

I am going with Africa Inland Mission.  They work only in Africa in select countries.  Their mission is to reach the unreached people groups.  You can find where they work on their website, but many Muslim countries they are working in cannot be publicly displayed. AIM has over 900 missionaries in Africa today.

PPS: Anything else you want to share with our lovely readers?

Thanks for taking the time to read this.  And thank you even more to Jen and Katie who have given me this opportunity to share my heart and where the Lord is calling me to.  I am beyond blessed and therefore hope to give those blessing to the precious children of Namibia who so deserve it and much much more.

{all images used with permission by Amanda}

Amanda has a blog that you can check out here.  She’ll keep you in the loop of new products, how she’s doing with fundraising and other fun tidbits.  You can also check out her beautiful photography that is available for purchase as well!  We’ve truly loved getting to know Amanda a little more and hope you all will join us in prayer for her and her upcoming adventure.  We also hope you help support her by purchasing an item or two…after all, they’re so amazingly fantastic, how could you resist?

leather love and a blessing

Filed Under: accessories, for the girl, for the soul by Jen — 4 Comments
October 17, 2011

First of all, you all are AMAZING!!  We are up 3 more facebook fans (only 6 more until we hit 100 and throw a party jump up and down in Katie’s living room!) and had 3 people send us recipes (pumpkin recipes so we’re definitely going to try them!).  WOOHOO!  We’re so thankful to our fabulous readers.  :)

Every once in a while there are things that Katie and I both just LOVE.  Usually it is a print or a piece of artwork but rarely is it a purse or article of clothing.  When I came across this clutch on etsy, I sent it to Katie expecting a “it’s cute for you” response.  Well, I didn’t get that response.  I got the “I LOVE THIS” response which made me really excited because those were my thoughts exactly (except mine were actually thoughts in my head not out loud because I found it at work and Katie’s was actually out loud because she was at home…sigh, the perks of being a stay-at-home mom).

I digress.  Onto the clutch.

Obsessed.  Seriously obsessed.  The colors are perfect for fall, the leather is perfect for my hand, and size is perfect for my wallet, phone and lip gloss.  Done.  This wonderful clutch is from Ira Grant.  All of their bags and clutches are designed in made in Switzerland (maybe that is why Katie and I love them so much…we seem to be fans of international designers…).  They also have a blog which is really fun…you can check it out here.

{all images used with permission by Ira Grant}

I go back and forth between loving clutches and loving huge bags.  It’s easier to just throw a bag over my shoulder but honestly everything I need could just fit into a tiny clutch.  Katie likes the idea of putting all of her items in a clutch and putting the clutch and all of her kid items (cheerios, pacifier, coloring book, etc)  float around in the larger purse.  What would you do?

Switching gears a little bit, this week at church was our “blessing service”.  My pastor talked about what it means to be a blessing to people in your sphere of influence especially your family and children.  He reminded us how important it is to give blessing through our children (or in my case, nieces and family friends) through hugs, praying with them and over them and simply loving on them in their own ways.  It ended with the opportunity to get a blessing ourselves which was really special.

My week had ended on a sour note with a rejection from a job I recently interviewed with…one in which seemed like God had ordained specifically for me and for whatever reason he closed the door.  This blessing service came at just the right time because it was like God was just reminding me of the power He has over my life.  My pastor said that we are “blessed to be a blessing”.  I have been blessed in so many ways and this week I am going to try extra hard to be a blessing to others.  I have always loved this blessing from Numbers and thought this print from Lamp Light was beautiful.

{image used from Lamp Light}

This week I am going to walk in the presence of my God…the One who has the perfect plan for my life and be a blessing to others.

Friday Favorites: Katie’s Wall

Filed Under: for the home by Katie — 6 Comments
October 14, 2011

Ok, you know I’m going to be writing about the wall in my house.  Here’s the backstory:

I’ve mentioned about 5 billion times that we moved into our current house a little over 3 months ago.  The layout of this house is COMPLETELY different from our old house.  I have one of those vaulted ceilings that is open to the dining room and living room.  “The Wall” I am referring to is the part that is in the dining area.  The other “issue” with this house is that everything. is. beige.  I think the previous owners must have hired someone to come in and paint their ENTIRE HOUSE the same beige color.  I am not kidding.  (The exception being the kitchen, which is this strange brownish yellowish beigeish color.  I’m painting it soon.)  So my insides were (and still are) yearning for color.

Ok.  So.  I LOVE to decorate with photos, but the other part of the wall (the part in the living room area) has family photos in it, so I didn’t really want to compete with that. I knew I wanted to do SOMETHING along the lines of Jen’s awesome wall, because every time I go to her place I LOVE IT.  So after several weeks of looking around for some piece of art that wouldn’t break the bank this is what I came up with:

Yep, it is NOTHING like Jen’s wall (even our Printable Scripture is different!).  But if you know me, this is pretty “out there” for me.  And you know what I realized when I was doing this wall, using Jen’s wall for inspiration?  Just because I love HER wall at HER house doesn’t mean that I would love that at MY house.  I think part of what I love about her wall is that it just screams “Jen.”  I tried, oh I tried, to make things asymmetrical and crazy and awesome, but I just couldn’t do it when it came down to pounding nails in the wall.  This, literally, is about as crazy as I think I’ll ever get! I think that is the awesome thing about decorating and being inspired by someone or something.  You get to turn into your OWN personal design at your house, with items that mean something to you, on your budget!

And just in case you were wondering…I got the big “art” in the middle for 50% off at Target, so that was only $35.  The wooden spoons Jen collected for me while on the World Race – they are all from different countries.  The Printable Scripture is in $3 Target frames, and the photos I had stored away in a box, so they feel new to me!  :-)

Here’s some links to send you on your way this weekend….
Kelly at View Along the Way has a series “What I Love About My Home.”  It. Is Awesome.
Instructions to spruce up a necklace you might be tired of with some ribbion, clip on earrings, and a pin!
I’m not vegan, but I think I’d make these bars anyway.  Yum-o.

A scarf to help, a scarf to swap

Filed Under: accessories, Breast Cancer Awareness Products, for the girl by Jen — 1 Comment
October 10, 2011

I have a scarf fetish.  When I used to work at Maurices they used to call me the “scarf girl” because I would literally wear scarves every day.  I love them!  They’re like my security blanket.  I love to wear big cozy scarves in the winter to keep me warm and lighter-weight ones in the summer.  I probably have 20ish.  When Katie found this scarf I knew it would be the perfect addition to my scarf collection.

{image used with permission from TomieHarlene}

This scarf comes from TomieHarlene another lovely etsy store!  Like Katie mentioned lat week and this morning, we wanted to highlight some of our favorite products that are giving money for cancer research.  According to Sue, the owner’s, site this is a Scarf with a Cause.  A portion of the proceeds will go to the Susan G. Komen Foundation for any hot pink or pink azalea infinity scarf purchased.  And with this scarf being only $16 it will be a very affordable way to help good cause!  Are there any products that you like to purchase to benefit breast cancer treatment or the Susan G. Komen Foundation?  We love all of the scarves that Sue from TomieHarlene has in her store.  They are all the infinity style which I love and are all extremely affordable.  She even has some denim ones which is a fun twist (no pun intended haha).

Related to scarves, Krysten over at Why Girls Are Weird is doing a scarf swap!  Not just any scarf swap but a Keep Warm, Look Snazzy Scarf Swap!!

Below is all of the info that you need for the swap taken from Krysten’s site.
All About The Swap in Krysten’s words:
Autumn is my absolute favorite time of year – the crisp weather, the gorgeous colors, the amazing food and of course the fun things that you get to wear.  I know you all are nodding your heads right now.  The Keep Warm, Look Snazzy Scarf Swap is all about the lovely things that go along with Autumn.  The only thing that must be included in the swap is, of course, a beautiful scarf.  Otherwise, you have free reign to include as little or as much as you’d like in your swap package.
Pair Ups
You may request to either have a partner within the U.S. or outside of the U.S.  This is so that all international bloggers can take part as well!  Keep in mind if you are within the U.S. and request to have an international partner you’ll be paying extra shipping which is not to be included in the price of your swap items.
Dates
Sign ups will remain open until October 12th, 2011.  Your swap partner will be emailed to you on October 13th, 2011.  Please make sure to have your package sent out by October 27th, 2011.  Starting on November 4th, 2011, I’d love to have anyone who signed up for the swap posting about the packages they received!  Krysten be having a fun link up party on her site so you’ll be able to check up other swap partners and what they got!
Requirements
1. You must have an active blog you participate.
2. Please keep within the price requirements – around $25 to $30.  If you are handmaking anything try to make sure the total package is around those amounts.

Katie’s Friday Favorites: Watches

Filed Under: accessories, for the girl by Katie — 8 Comments
October 7, 2011

I hate watches.

I used to wear one.  I think in high school.  Or maybe it was middle school.  Then I got this weird reaction on my wrist from whatever kind of watch I was wearing and when I took off my watch the weird itchy rashy thing went away and that was the end of my watch wearing.  Until I had children.  Then I felt like I was constantly wondering what time it was (how long had it been since she ate? slept? cried?) so I bought a new watch, and wore it for, oh, a week, and then decided the clock on the wall and microwave worked just fine.  Now the watch sits in my jewelry box.  The battery is probably dead, I should really just throw the thing away.

ANYWAY, since we’re doing this post about watches (so weird…nail polish last week and watches this week, gross!) I figured I’d just go on google images and find a watch that I would theoretically buy if I were to buy one solely based on looks.  I think I’d go for something like this:

This images comes from dealcloset.com and apparently this is a Citizen eco-drive quartz leather strap watch.  I don’t know though…I googled that and couldn’t find this watch anywhere…maybe its an old model?  I don’t know.  I like it though.  I figure Jen would hate it because if you wear a slap watch you probably wouldn’t wear one of these.  :-)

So there you have it.

In other news…I came across this video that Jones Design Company posted on her blog and wanted to share it. Have you seen it?  THIS IS SO COOL and worth the time to watch!  Especially if you love scarves!  I love not only all the scarf options, but what all the other people are doing while the “scarf look” is being demonstrated.  Check it out:

Other links I’m loving…
